Pumpkins are technically a fruit, not a vegetable — which means that pumpkin pie is actually a fruit pie. (We’ll still count it as a Thanksgiving classic either way.)

Hello Neighbours,

Welcome back to another edition of Georgina Digest! With Thanksgiving around the corner, the markets are overflowing, fall colours are at their peak, and there are plenty of ways to enjoy the season. Here’s what’s happening this week:

Local Updates

Town Names Street After Local Firefighter

Georgina has honoured the memory of volunteer firefighter Randy Bush by naming a new street in the Ballymore subdivision Randy Bush Crescent. Bush served the community for over 25 years, and the street dedication is part of the Town’s ongoing recognition of local heroes.

Seasonal Change: Lake Drive Pathway Removal

Town crews have begun removing the Lake Drive multi-use pathway for the season. Expect temporary lane closures and slower traffic in some areas as the work wraps up this week.

Blue Box Recycling Transition

Georgina is preparing to shift to Ontario’s new Blue Box recycling program, which will change how recyclables are collected and sorted. Residents can expect updates later this fall on how to adapt.

Jackson’s Point Parkette & High Castle Park Upgrades

Two community spaces are getting a refresh. Jackson’s Point Parkette will see new walkways, lighting, and signage, while High Castle Park in Keswick is getting new playground equipment designed for accessibility and inclusive play.

Civic Centre Construction Progress

Work continues on Georgina’s new Civic Centre, with drywall, electrical, and exterior finishes underway. The project remains on schedule for substantial completion by late 2025.

Leisure Vehicle Storage Reminder

As the cooler weather arrives, residents are reminded that boats, RVs, and trailers cannot remain stored in driveways after November 1, unless they meet by-law requirements. It’s time to start winterizing and tidying up those summer toys.

Community Open House Recap

If you missed it — the Community Open House at the Multi-Use Recreation Complex earlier this month drew dozens of residents. The evening included tours of the facility, program previews, and the unveiling of a new local art installation.
