Listen, I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Daylight Saving Time is a scam. I am currently running on a dangerous combination of dark roast coffee and a very thick, generous layer of men’s anti-wrinkle night cream, just hoping my face doesn't reveal to the world how tired I actually am. Losing an hour of sleep is brutal enough, but trying to navigate that Monday morning grogginess while fending off fifty “Is this still available?” messages on Facebook Marketplace for a snow shovel I listed four months ago is a true test of human endurance. The local resale market never sleeps, even when we desperately need to.

But we march forward. The mud is drying (slowly), and March Break is officially upon us.

This week is about survival and preparation.

Surviving the Daylight Saving Time sleep deficit. Preparing your pantry for the locust-like swarm of hungry kids on March Break. And doing one final sweep of the lake before the ice officially becomes off-limits.

It is officially moving week! The Town's brand-new Replacement Civic Centre will open to the public for regular business hours next Monday, March 16. Services at the current location will continue until the end of the day this Friday, March 13.

The new building is located right beside the old one (same address: 26557 Civic Centre Rd.), and it is fully accessible. Just note that when you visit starting next Monday, you'll need to use the new driveway entrance located immediately south of the building to access the visitor parking lot.

If you've ever felt the pain of trying to figure out where your building permit is stuck in the system, this is for you. The Town just launched a new digital Development Tracking System (DTS). It's a modern, end-to-end online portal designed to streamline the permit process and improve transparency for homeowners, builders, and developers.

This is not a drill. By midnight this Sunday, March 15, all ice huts must be completely removed from Lake Simcoe. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) does not mess around with this deadline. Get your huts off the ice now before you're stuck paying a massive fine or funding an underwater salvage operation.

Thanks to the wild sunshine turning the snow into puddles, the Town has officially hit pause on the Pefferlaw Ice Pad. This is just a temporary timeout—if temperatures drop back down, they are hoping to get it frozen again!
