GREAT ODIN'S RAVEN, GEORGINA! I don’t know who needs to hear this, but the pollen is attacking my sinuses like a spider monkey on a caffeine bender, and I am here for it! Spring is officially in the air - I can literally taste it, and it tastes like victory and lilacs! April is right around the corner, people! So shake off that winter frost, go do some karate in the garage, and let's get down to brass tacks because we have a newsletter so jam-packed with local updates it might just burst into spontaneous, glorious flames! Stay classy, Georgina!
The Week of the Spring Awakening
This week is about getting back out there. Resetting the alarm clocks now that the melt is in full swing. Dusting off the rubber boots. And resetting your expectations for how long your car will actually stay clean.
💡Why it matters
Provincial Relief Funds: Georgina receives over $300k to cover ice storm damages.
New Local Bakery: Island Grove just got a little bit sweeter.
Pools Are Back: Swimming is back on the menu at the Georgina Leisure Pool after repairs.
📰 Town News & Civic Updates
As of Wednesday, March 25, in-person Town Council meetings have officially returned at the Replacement Civic Centre. The meetings are now operating on a hybrid model, providing staff, Council members, and the public the option to participate either in person or virtually. If you've been itching to see local democracy in action, now is your chance!
If you are a builder, developer, or just a resident looking to do some major renovations, things just got easier. The Town has officially launched its new Development Tracking System (DTS). This end-to-end digital solution is designed to streamline building and planning applications, improve transparency, and drastically enhance the customer experience.
MPP Caroline Mulroney recently announced that the provincial government is providing up to $315,000 to the Town of Georgina through the Municipal Ice Storm Assistance program. This funding will help cover the massive clean-up and emergency response costs our municipality faced during last year's severe spring ice storm.
With the spring melt in full swing and more rain on the way, the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) has issued a watershed conditions statement. The ground is saturated, runoff is rapid, and water levels are high. Please exercise extreme caution around local rivers, streams, and the Lake Simcoe shoreline this week, and keep pets and children away from slippery banks!
Good news for local swimmers! The Beach and Therapy pools at the Georgina Leisure Pool officially reopened this past week following their recent technical closures and repairs. Lap pools remain open for regular programming. Cannonballs are highly encouraged (where permitted by the lifeguard, of course).
