We have officially entered the "Fool's Spring" phase of the year. The sun is shining, but the wind still feels like a personal insult. Between the dog tracking half of the Greenbelt's mud into my kitchen, and me trying to decipher if I can legally claim a 2024 daycare expense on my 2025 income tax return without the CRA auditing my entire soul... I am exhausted. I’m honestly half-tempted to just start drinking my men's anti-wrinkle night face cream. It has to help the stress lines from the inside, right?
But we march forward into March. Bring on the maple syrup.
The Week of the Mud
This week is about transitions.
Transitioning out of winter boots (too early, you will regret it). Transitioning your kids into March Break mode. And transitioning our clocks forward this weekend so we can all be collectively sleep-deprived.
💡Why it matters
Ice huts have an eviction notice: The Lake Simcoe removal deadline is fast approaching.
March Break is looming: Town camps are filling up rapidly.
Daylight Saving Time: We lose an hour of sleep this coming weekend.
📰 Town News & Community Updates
🧊 The Clock is Ticking for Ice Huts
Attention all anglers: The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is issuing its annual reminder that all ice huts must be removed from Lake Simcoe by March 15. With the unpredictable freeze-thaw cycles we’ve had this year, local authorities are urging people not to wait until the last minute. If your hut falls through the ice, you're looking at a massive fine and the cost of an underwater recovery. Pull 'em early!

🏕️ March Break Panic: Secure Your Spot
March Break (March 16-20) is exactly two weeks away. If you haven't figured out what to do with your children while you try to work, the Town of Georgina still has a few spots left in their specialty camps at the MURC and the Georgina Ice Palace. Whether it's the "Mad Science" camp or the "Sports of All Sorts" program, you need to book immediately before you're stuck doing 40 hours of arts and crafts at your kitchen table.

⏰ Reminder: Spring Forward This Weekend
This is your official, one-week warning. Daylight Saving Time begins this coming Sunday, March 8 at 2:00 a.m. We lose an hour of sleep, but we finally get some evening daylight back. It’s also the perfect time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

MON · High -6°C | Low -18°C Sunny, but freezing. A very cold start to the week—don't put those heavy winter coats away just yet.
TUE · High 2°C | Low -7°C Snow expected. Just when you thought we were done, a fresh layer arrives to mess with our spring hopes.
WED · High 4°C | Low -6°C Rain and Snow. The sloppy mess begins. Expect major puddles and slush as the temperature climbs above freezing.
THU · High 3°C | Low -2°C Cloudy and calm. A grey day to recover from Wednesday's mess.
FRI · High 4°C | Low 1°C Light rain. Keep the umbrella handy and the dog towels by the door!
SAT · High 12°C | Low 0°C Fool's Spring has arrived! A massive warm-up. Though it will be cloudy, 12°C is amazing weather to hit the sugar bush in Pefferlaw.
SUN (DAYLIGHT SAVING) · High 8°C | Low -1°C Rainy and mild. You'll be sleepy from the time change, so it's a perfect excuse to stay inside.
What this means for your week
The Great Melt: With temperatures swinging from -18°C on Monday up to a balmy 12°C by Saturday, paired with mid-week rain, our yards are going to be absolute swamps.
Freeze/Thaw: Watch out for slick, icy roads on Wednesday and Thursday mornings where the daytime puddles freeze overnight.
How are you preparing for Daylight Saving Time?

🌅 Close-out note
