Listen, I don’t know who needs to hear this, but scheduling St. Patrick’s Day on a Tuesday right in the middle of March Break feels like a cruel, coordinated attack on parents everywhere. Between scrubbing mysterious green food dye off the kitchen counters and trying to launch my new side hustle creating and selling custom magnetic photos, my stress levels are officially peaking. I’m not saying I applied my heavy-duty men’s anti-wrinkle night cream at 2:00 p.m. yesterday just to cope with the chaos, but I’m not denying it either.
But we march forward. The kids are home, the green beer is flowing, and Spring officially arrives this Friday.
The Week of the Green Chaos
This week is about pacing yourself.
Pacing your snacks so you don’t run out by Wednesday of March Break.
Pacing your Guinness consumption on a Tuesday night.
And pacing your excitement for the first official day of Spring (because we all know April snowstorms are a very real threat).
💡Why it matters
The Replacement Civic Centre is OPEN: As of this morning, the new building is officially operational.
St. Patrick’s Day is tomorrow: Local pubs are gearing up for a massive Tuesday.
Spring arrives Friday: The vernal equinox hits at 10:46 a.m. this Friday, meaning longer, warmer days are actually ahead.
📰 Town News & Civic Updates
🏢 Welcome to the New Civic Centre
Happy Moving Day! As of 8:30 a.m. today, the Town of Georgina’s brand-new Replacement Civic Centre is officially open to the public. If you need to pay a property tax bill, grab a dog tag, or access Service Georgina in person, you will now head to the new facility.
Remember: It’s the exact same address (26557 Civic Centre Rd.), but you need to use the brand-new driveway entrance located immediately south of the building to get into the visitor parking lot.
🌷 Spring is Officially Here (Friday)
This Friday, March 20 at exactly 10:46 a.m., marks the vernal equinox—the first official day of Spring. While the ground might still be aggressively muddy, it’s a great time to start thinking about your yard.
A quick reminder that the Town’s bi-weekly Spring Yard Waste collection won’t officially begin until the week of April 13. Keep those kraft bags in the garage for a few more weeks!
🚧 Pothole Repair Blitz Continues
With the wild freeze-thaw cycles we had last week, the roads took a beating. Town crews are actively out doing “cold patch” repairs. If you hit a crater on your commute that rattles your teeth, remember to report it through the Town’s online portal so it gets added to the priority list.

What this means for your week
The St. Paddy's Commute: Tuesday night will be busy on the roads, and Wednesday morning will be a little icy with the overnight drop. Plan your safe rides home in advance and check for any local bus route changes or specific event transportation!
Layer Up: With temperatures hovering right around the 5-to-10 degree mark, we are in peak "light jacket in the sun, shivering in the shade" territory. Plan your March Break day trips (perhaps to Newmarket or East Gwillimbury!) accordingly.
What is your official local sign that Spring has arrived?

Whether you’re celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, entertaining a house full of energetic kids, or just trying to navigate the brand-new parking lot at the Civic Centre, remember to take a deep breath.
