Listen, I’m not saying Mother Nature has a personal vendetta against us, but she definitely tried to put Georgina in a headlock last weekend.

The wind chill wasn't just cold; it was disrespectful. It looked me right in the eye and slapped the coffee out of my hand. I stepped onto my porch for four seconds and instantly aged 30 years.

But we are strong! We are resilient! We are... rescheduling!

The Week We Try Again

This week is about recovery.

Recovering from the deep freeze.

Recovering from the realization that Valentine’s Day is this Saturday (yes, you need a reservation).

And recovering our hopes for a train that might actually stop in Pefferlaw.

💡Why it matters

  • Community plans shifted fast this weekend (SnoFest is moving!)

  • A major transportation request just went to the Province

  • The "Big Blue Bin" debate is heating up at Regional Council

📰 Town News & Community Updates

🚂 Pefferlaw wants a ride on the Northlander

The Town of Georgina has officially petitioned the province to add a stop in Pefferlaw as part of the Northlander train expansion. With the passenger rail service set to resume in 2026, Pefferlaw residents (and Council) are arguing that watching the train go by isn't enough—they want to get on.

Advocates point out a massive 50km service gap between the Gormley and Washago stops. While the Township of Brock is pushing for a station in Beaverton, Georgina Council argues Pefferlaw's existing railway infrastructure makes it the logical choice.

♻️ The "Blue Bin" drama heads to Region

If you’ve been struggling to drag those massive new 360-litre recycling carts down your driveway (or find space for them in the garage), you’ve got company. York Region and the Town are currently fielding complaints about the "one-size-fits-all" approach.

While the new bi-weekly automated collection started January 1st to align with provincial producer responsibility, the "inequitable service" complaints from northern municipalities are getting louder. The Province has hinted that smaller bin options might be fast-tracked for those with mobility issues or smaller properties.

📅 SnoFest has a new date

In case you missed the frantic updates on Saturday: SnoFest was officially postponed due to the extreme cold warning and high winds.

The new date is Saturday, February 28, 2026. Same plan, same location (The ROC), just (hopefully) less frostbite.
