Did you know snow can fall in shapes called “diamond dust” - tiny ice crystals that just hang in the air and sparkle?

Thankfully, in Georgina most of our winter sparkle comes from lights, concerts, and holiday events rather than frozen eyelashes.

Holiday Nights, Local Lights

This week, Georgina leans into mid-December: big-stage shows at the Leacock, Chanukah celebrations at the ROC, crafty library nights, and even a Motown Christmas in Newmarket.

It’s that window where there’s still time before the holidays hit full speed, but the calendar already feels busy in a good way.

💡 Why it matters

  • Local events make dark evenings feel brighter (and more fun).

  • Concerts and programs support our theatres, libraries, and community groups.

  • Planning even one outing this week can turn “another cold night” into a memory.

📰 Town News

Town Brings Back Holiday Parking Exemption

The Town has brought back its holiday parking exemption, relaxing some on-street rules from Dec. 19, 2025 to Jan. 2, 2026. Residents may park longer than three hours and overnight on most streets during this window, unless a Winter Maintenance Event is declared for snow clearing.

Why it matters:

Easier parking for family visits and gatherings – but you still need to watch for Winter Maintenance Event alerts so plows can do their job.

Town of Georgina Collects Five More MarCom Awards

Georgina has earned five international MarCom Awards for communications and marketing, including a platinum award for its Ice Storm Crisis Communications Campaign and gold awards for Winter Wisdom Wednesdays, Safe Streets with Shelly, the Explore Georgina tourism website, and promotion of Vintage Christmas.

Why it matters:

These awards show that the Town’s communication, tourism, and events work is getting noticed beyond Georgina — and that tools like Explore Georgina and winter safety campaigns are award-winning, not just “nice to have.”

Georgina Matters – Winter 2025 Highlights

The Georgina Matters – Winter 2025 newsletter is out now. It covers winter operations, high-speed internet expansion through YorkNet, Pefferlaw Ice Pad skating, ROC tubing and passes, and more.

Why it matters:

It’s a one-stop snapshot of what’s happening this season - from winter fun to big infrastructure projects and internet upgrades.

🏪 Community & Business Notes

  • Theatres and venues are busy: The Leacock, NewRoads, and local pubs all have stacked calendars - buying tickets early keeps seats filled and supports live performance.

  • Libraries are low-cost “third spaces”: Workshops like bath bomb-making give adults a creative break without a big price tag.

  • Holiday drives are short: Newmarket and East Gwillimbury events are still close enough to feel “local,” but different enough to make the night feel special.
