Good morning and welcome to the great post-Easter candy hangover! If you are currently vibrating at a frequency that can shatter glass because you ate your body weight in leftover chocolate bunnies yesterday... you are not alone! Put down the Cadbury Creme Eggs, splash some cold water on your face, and let's get after it. Spring is aggressively asserting itself, the mud is absolutely glorious, and we have a jam-packed week of highly accurate, brand-new local updates to keep you in the loop. Stay classy, Georgina!

The Week of the Post-Holiday Reset

This week is about getting back to reality. Sweeping up the fake Easter grass, recovering from the massive family dinners, and finally confronting the fact that yard work and street-sweeping season is officially upon us.

💡Why it matters

  • Earth Month is Here: Free trees, cleanup kits, and curbside giveaways are on the schedule.

  • Sports Hall of Fame: Georgina is officially launching a Hall of Fame at the MURC.

  • Yard Waste is Back: Bi-weekly collection officially begins next week!

📰 Town News & Civic Updates

April is Earth Month, and Georgina is going all out! Save the date: The Town is hosting a Free Tree Giveaway at the ROC on Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Limit of two trees per vehicle, while supplies last). Additionally, with Pitch-In Week running April 19–26, residents can email [email protected] to request a free community cleanup kit, which can be picked up at the Civic Centre or any Georgina Public Library branch.

The Town of Georgina has officially announced the establishment of the Georgina Sports Hall of Fame! This highly anticipated program will be hosted at the new Multi-Use Recreation Complex (MURC). It is designed to honour and recognize the incredible achievements of local athletes, coaches, and sports builders who have made a remarkable contribution to sports within our community and beyond.

Time to clear out the basement clutter! The popular Curbside Giveaway program returns on April 25 and will run monthly until October. Residents can place gently used, unwanted items at the curb from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for neighbours to take completely free of charge. (Just remember: any unclaimed items must be brought back inside by 5:00 p.m.!).

If you hear a massive rumble coming down your street mid-April, don't panic. Weather permitting, Town crews are launching their annual spring street sweeping blitz to clear away leftover winter sand from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekdays. Please sweep any unwanted sand from your driveways to the curb edge, and avoid parking on Town streets during the day so the sweepers can do their jobs!

Don't bag it up just yet, but get your kraft paper bags ready! The Town’s bi-weekly Spring Yard Waste collection officially kicks off next week, starting Monday, April 13, and will continue every other week until December. Remember, no plastic bags will be accepted.
